General Meeting Minutes for 1952

A General Meeting of the British Mathematical Colloquium was held in the Royal Naval College, Greenwich on July 30th , 1952.
  1. The minutes of the General Meeting held at Bristol in 1951 were read and approved.
  2. Professor Burchnall offered the hospitality of the University of Durham for the next meeting of the Colloquium. This offer was gratefully accepted.
  3. The following members retired from the Committee:

    H A Heilbronn,
    A G Walker,
    J M Whittaker,
    I M Etherington.
  4. The following members were elected to the Committee:

    W V D Hodge,
    W W Rogosinski,
    H Davenport,
    A C Aitken.
  5. It was requested that a list of members attending the Colloquium be circulated about two weeks before the meeting was due to take place.
  6. It was suggested that papers on Applied Mathematics be read at the Colloquium, but after some discussion it was finally agreed that the present policy should be continued.
  7. The question of inviting two foreign guests was referred to the Committee.
  8. The chairman read the following resolution, which was carried unanimously;

    "The British Mathematical Colloquium wishes to express the gratitude of its members for permission to hold the fourth Colloquium at the Royal Naval College and their appreciation of the kindness and hospitality with which they have been treated. The Royal Naval College has provided excellent facilities for the mathematical business of the Colloquium. Moreover the privilege of meeting among such surroundings as these is a notable contribution to the welfare of British Mathematics."
  9. A vote of thanks was passed to Professor Hopf and the organisers of the Colloquium.
