On this day in 1760, Euler wrote the first of 263 letters to Princess Charlotte Ludovica Luisa, later collected as Letters to a German Princess. In the first letter Euler promised to produce:-
... examples of the smallest as well as the greatest extensions of matter actually discoverable in the system of the universe.
